What is the Google Places Business Directory?

There are actually three data bases that appear on any Google Search:
  1. The "Local List" or "Maps List", (to the left on the diagram), appears on Google searches for a product or service in a given location. The first 1-10 items of this list frequently appear on page 1 of the Google search results, to the right of a map, displaying the location of each company with bright red tear-drop shaped arrows. (Note: the listing displays the company's address, and phone number!)
  2. The "organic listing," (below on this diagram), appears above and or below the map and displays pages of search results from Google's general data base. (Note: that the listings do not automaticlly display an address and or phone number with each listing.)
  3. The "paid listings," or "sponsored links," (to the right on the diagram), are displayed to the right and sometimes above the organic and maps listings, and are "pay per click," listings, based on how much the business owner bids for the right to a high placement on Google.
